SENIOR EDITOR –
Job Description: Casino City seeks a Senior Editor with strong editorial and
management skills to join and oversee our online editorial team. Creative
writing, organization and planning skills are essential. The ideal
candidate will have a passion for all aspects of gaming, including poker,
casino games and entertainment and following trends in the industry.
Experience in sports and entertainment are a plus.
You will have the overall responsibility for daily editorial production.
Working with the Director of Content, you will help to define and execute
the editorial vision and develop and maintain tone, voice and attitude of
our Web sites. Challenges include setting and balancing deadlines,
directing numerous projects and resources, and providing input on story
generation. You will play a leadership role in how we grow our team, and
revamp and transform our current sites into world-class internet portals
and destinations.
Other responsibilities include assigning stories, writing headlines and
teases effectively and quickly, and editing for errors of grammar, style
or statements of fact. The senior editor will conduct interviews with
gaming professionals and celebrities, write articles, publish content on
Web sites, post articles, news and reviews, and manage staff and
experienced freelance writers.
Other Tasks:
Maintain short-term and long-term editorial calendars
Manage editorial budget
Work collaboratively with writing team to brainstorm new story ideas
Assign writers to projects and set editorial priorities
Determine photographic and image needs
Develop graphics with designers to enhance stories, articles and news
Work with partners and affiliate publications in the exchange of content
Change raw content into newsworthy angles that are compelling
Categorize, rank and prioritize news stories
Promote content throughout the Web site to enhance page views
Education / Skills Required: Bachelors degree in journalism, writing, marketing or relevant area
Five+ years of professional journalism experience
Solid writing and editing content for a frequently-updated consumer site
Experience managing a staff of creative writers and freelancers
Knowledge of AP Stylebook, copyediting and journalistic standards
Experience identifying and developing angles for spot news,
features and profiles Working knowledge of Word and Excel
