Copy Editor (financial district)

Overview of Position: The Copy Editor is responsible
for editing and proofreading Direct Mail and insert advertising
produced by Macy’s West and selected vendors. Reporting to
the Direct Mail Editing Manager, the Copy Editor will maintain
a thorough knowledge of Macy’s style and legal guidelines
and assist in providing editing direction to copy staff.
Key Accountabilities: # Edit assigned Direct
Mail pieces, ensuring consistency and accuracy
# Proofread content for grammatical, legal and factual consistency
# Responsible for meeting production deadlines and monitoring
workflow
# Edit and proofread corporate- and vendor-produced mailers,
stitch-ins and blow-ins
# Proofread pages placed in online catalog against corresponding
printed piece, ensuring accuracy
# Serve as a key point person in assisting copywriters with
copy issues
# Develop relationship with the Legal department, plus ensure
Direct Mail legal compliance
# Assist Editing Manager in maintaining and updating all copy
libraries, keeping writers informed of changes
# Assist Editing Manager in maintaining and updating Direct
Mail department style guide
# Assist Editing Manager in managing and directing activities
of any freelance resources
Skills # 1+ years copy editing experience in
retail advertising or related publishing fields
# Basic knowledge of retail terminology and retail copy writing
# Above average communication, time management and problem
solving skills
# Ability to respond quickly to change and work well in a
deadline-driven environment
# Ability to perform as a team player and take direction
# Superior grammatical, stylistic and analytical skills
# Above average mathematical skills
# Familiarity with print production a plus
# Knowledge of Macintosh-based software, plus Adobe InDesign,
Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Office Suite and Lotus Notes
