Bodh Gaya is located in Bihar, about 110 kms from Patna, the capital of Bihar. Once a village, Bodh Gaya is considered to be one of the holiest sites associated with Lord Buddha and the Buddhist faith in Bihar, India.

It is in Bodh Gaya that Siddhartha, a young ascetic attained enlightenment to become Lord Buddha and founded Buddhism which is known as one of the oldest religions in the world. It is said that Lord Buddha came to Bodh Gaya in search for truth and peace & this is where he attained Nirvana - The Four Noble Truths.

The Mahabodhi Temple

The Mahabodhi Temple is a beautiful sandstone structure set amongst green lawns. The colossal Golden Buddha, the temple walls carved with different aspects of Buddhism and the stone railing around the temple are all essential attractions of this temple.

Rebuild and restored several times, the Mahabodhi Temple has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Bodhi Tree

The Bodhi Tree is located in the Mahabodhi Temple complex and holds great religious significance. It is believed that Lord Buddha spent the first week after enlightenment under this holy tree.
