Self Appraisal
How far in these days of
up-coming B-Schools or MNC’s ‘ Self- appraisal’ important? As a
management student, I know its worth and importance of it. Not stretching
any further, will tell you all my own experience when I was hoping to earn
a bit and save some as my vacations had already begun in full vigour. All
that I could see everywhere were hoardings announcing “Summer Jobs
Available” contact so and so.
I decided to take it up as
a project as assigned by my own self, and more of having a self-experience
and learning to earn and save bit by bit, I went into drug store, reached
for a soda carton and pulled it over to the telephone. I climbed onto the
carton so that I could reach the buttons on the phone and proceeded to
punch in seven digits.

I heard the store-owner
listening talking to a lady who was on the other end of the line:
Asking for the receiver to be given to me, I asked the lady who was
talking to the store-owner, "Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your
lawn? She replied, "I already have someone to cut my lawn." "Lady, I will
cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now." I
replied. But to my dismay, I found that she was very satisfied with the
person who was presently cutting her lawn. Now, I realized I was in real
trouble; if this lady wouldn’t oblige me, I would not surely be able to
prove myself or earn a bit and save more.

My trials at various
junctions of “Ready To Do Summer Jobs” had made me more perseverant and I
offered, "Lady, I'll even sweep your curb and your sidewalk, so on Sunday
you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach, Florida." But as ill-luck had
knocked my doors of earning a bit and saving more again the woman answered
in the negative. With a dry smile on my
face, I replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all,
walked over to me and said, "Son... I like your attitude; I like that
positive spirit and would like to offer you a job."
I replied, "No thanks, I
was just checking my performance with the job I already have. I am the one
who is working for that lady, I was talking to!"
All that I have to say is be perseverant in your efforts to strive
anything good. No schools teaches you all this. It’s your own positive
attitude, live experiences and self-appraisal which helps you climb the
ladders of success. All the best for all your future ventures!!
