The Parting
Lover, it’s such a sad, sad, day
I have to leave and go away
Will you love me or will you forget
How we loved since the day we met
Baby, if I could I’d stay with you
Quit my job and start anew
Live a life of simple pleasure
Spend my days in cozy leisure
But the days grow short and the sun is dim
And fortune has promised to favor him
Who bravely leaves family and home
And toils and fights though all alone
So, my love, I must go now
And though I know not when or how,
I swear as surely as the seasons turn
I too, one
day, will return.
