When You Left Us
Shrouded in
white robe, you lay at our sight,
People gather around from daylight to night,
hoping somehow all this is just a dream,
especially to your loved ones with tearful stream.
As I watch you motionless, I think I saw you move,
Up from this sleep, you'd awake to prove,
but your eyes remain shut and my voice it lends,
in feeble whispers silently it transcends.
I wish you would know how dear to us you are,
How fondly you are remembered to those near and far.
Then, a gentle breeze swept by touching each on the hair,
almost saying to us you are right here and there.
The warmth of the light as it shimmers in the dark
was like you came by to leave us your unspoken mark,
to tell us all here that all is fine and well with you,
that you are happy too in heaven; we needn't be blue,
and when our time comes to paradise we shall go,
there you will be standing right at the entrance door,
to welcome us home, our final place of rest --
no wounds, no sorrows, no foes to detest,
but love is all that's there and in all that we feel,
No more a dream to wake from, it's truly real.
And though your physical presence no more is around,
still in your spirit you're here, your love surrounds.
Since love is an emotion felt only by the heart,
that's where you'll stay, never to depart.
