Environment - The Key to our Survival
|
|
The greatest challenge
today which is staring mankind in the eye is that of survival. Some would
still not hesitate to stir within themselves the concept of
'survival
of the fittest', but many more would agree that survival has slowly
but steadily metamorphosed into a monstrous threat.
The irony of
the current situation lies in the very cause of it - man.
Man has been constantly evolving. From a bundle of emotions
he has tragically transformed into a bundle of desires, which
generously lends itself to greed and 'greed' is the parent
of all crimes.
|
From the moment the earth
was born till date, man has been dependent on the resources provided to
him by nature. Everything that was required for survival was present,
embedded in the generous lap of our environment. But somewhere in the
course of his evolution he tasted the bitter-sweet seeds of greed, and
from then the addiction grew.
|
|
The result of this is
evident from the polluted air we breathe, the contaminated water we drink
and the unhealthy food we consume. All these are directly linked with the
over exploitation of nature, which in turn is meant to alleviate the
status of the already materially-blessed 'haves' and invariably widening
the chasm between the haves and the have-nots.
The most serious issue
today is to stop and rewind - to give sustainability as much of importance
as it truly and surely deserves. For what we need today is to cut down on
self-serving ambitions and strive towards unified aspirations.
