5 Strategies for Finding More Freelance Work

Freelancing can give you the flexibility and freedom to build the life – and business – you want. But one of the most challenging aspects of being a freelancer is finding jobs. Because you’re solely responsible for marketing your services, it can be difficult to know where and how to find jobs.

Here are five strategies to help you land more freelance work -

1. Look in the Right Places

If you’re having trouble finding work, you may be looking in the wrong places. The most important thing is to find out where your potential clients are, and put your name in front of them. Online job boards, like JobTonic.in, or industry- specific job sites are great places to start. And you’ll have to do more than just look for job opportunities. You’ll need to take action to land clients and new projects.

2. Build Your Personal Brand

It’s hard to find work if no one knows who you are or what services you offer. Establishing and developing an online presence will help you get your name out there and build up your own personal brand.

· Be active on social media. Start developing a following and reach out to people in your industry. Networking through social media can help you land work quickly. Make sure you have a profile on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

· Create a blog or website. Showcase your portfolio and offer details about the services you offer. Adding a blog to your website will also give you a chance to post new content, which will drive more traffic to your website and grow your personal brand.

· Read other industry-related blogs and leave comments on their posts. This will get your name out there and help you network with both potential clients and others in your field.

· Submit guest posts to industry-related blogs. This will help you reach a larger audience and get your name in front of the right people. It will establish your personal brand as an authority in your industry.

Establishing an online presence and building your personal brand will help you find more freelance work and hopefully, recurring clients.

3. Never Stop Marketing

As a freelancer, you’ll experience busy and slow periods just like any other business. But many freelancers make the mistake of stopping or slowing their marketing efforts when work is plentiful. Even if you have more than enough work, you need to continue to market your personal brand to minimize those slow periods.

4. Offer Specialized Skills

Everyone wants a specialist these days – no matter what industry you’re in. People seek out and pay well for professionals with niche skills. Consider what your clients’ biggest challenges are. Do they have a common need? If so, can you pursue training to specialize in a skill that would help fulfill that need?

5. Be On Time

No matter whether you’re working on a project or meeting a client for lunch, make sure that you’re always on time. If you have a deadline, meet it. Better yet, get it done early. And never leave clients waiting for you. Being on time will help improve your chances of getting hired in the future. Remember, your clients will talk about your services to at least some of their contacts. Make a good impression. Your reputation depends on it.
